Freezing temperatures, boiling construction site! Pingkuang Glass project builders fight on the frontline

2026-03-24

A cold wave swept across western Jiangxi, and temperatures dropped sharply below zero. However, at the Pingkuang Glass project construction site, energy was surging — 350 builders were full of vigor, continuously pushing forward the project's 'progress bar' in the severe cold.

The reporter walked into the power distribution room of the power plant and could only hear the continuous sound of a vacuum cleaner, while one worker was carefully cleaning dust and debris from the floor. Jia Changkong, deputy director of the Environmental Residual Power Workshop at Anyuan Glass Company, inspected from the first floor to the third floor, then climbed onto the turbine and forcefully turned the main shaft with both hands. "The turbine needs to be regularly rotated to prevent the shaft from deforming under its own weight." Since joining the project last September, Jia Changkong has been responsible for supervising the installation quality of environmental protection facilities, controlling construction safety, and organizing production processes. "Sixty percent of the residual heat environmental protection facilities for the 500-ton production line have been installed, and completion is expected in April." He looked at the pipeline being welded for the sulfurization fan in the distance, his gaze confident, "The environmental system for the 700-ton production line is just waiting for commissioning."

Spare lines are being installed in the environmentally-friendly power distribution room. Electrician Zhang Mingliang, from Huanggang, Hubei, bent over in front of the electrical cabinet, holding tiny wires between his fingertips, carefully connecting them to the terminal blocks. Eight sets of distribution cabinets are neatly arranged, with dense wire ends inside resembling a sky full of stars; more than 4,000 cores of wire need to be precisely connected. "Wiring is meticulous work, and even a single wrong wire is unacceptable," Zhang Mingliang said, his fingers moving deftly inside the cold metal cabinet, occasionally touching the cable sheaths to check for any damage. In the adjacent, completed distribution cabinets, rows of tidy wires stand like well-trained soldiers, "lined up and ready." "The two of us plan to complete all the wiring tasks in 25 days. We have been working for 12 days, nine and a half hours each day, trying to finish quickly so we can go home and celebrate the festival earlier," he said, a smile gradually appearing at the corner of his mouth.

Walking into the main control room of the 1200t/d production line, a wave of warmth greets you. Fifty-four display screens are neatly arranged on the wall, emitting a dazzling blue light. An operator from Qinhuangdao Design Institute is carefully adjusting the screens. At present, the basic infrastructure of the main control room has been fully completed, and the DCS signals are about to be connected to the central control screens.

The cold wind still blows outside, but inside the tin bath of the 500-ton production line, a completely different scene of heat prevails. More than ten construction workers, wearing helmets and work uniforms, are installing hanging parts and building the top cover bricks. The space inside the inclined trough is narrow, yet the work proceeds in an orderly manner. The safety officer's gaze sweeps sharply over every work step: 'The bolts of the hanging parts must be properly secured, the placement of the top cover bricks must be neat, and neither safety nor quality can be neglected!'

From precise wiring to system commissioning, from solder bath construction to on-site supervision, the builders of the Pingkuang Glass Project braved the severe cold and fought against tight schedules, interpreting responsibility with persistence and writing commitment with practical work. They firmly 'nail' themselves to key positions, watering the hope of project completion with their sweat, sketching the most touching scenes of struggle in winter.
